Golf is such a great game and it takes patience, especially when learning how to putt well. With so much putting involved in the game, it is a skill that you must learn to master effectively. You can be the best driver in the world, but if you cant putt, and you arent mentally strong, then you will never be better than an average golfer.
Golf requires a tremendous amount of discipline and technical mastery. It is hard to get good at the game of golf, but not impossible. With patience and perseverance, your level of play will improve. If you are just starting out with golfing, please don’t expect to play like a pro in your first month. Learn the basics and then proceed from there. Personally, from my own experience, its the hardest sport I have ever been involved with. The fact that I was good at other sports hasnt really helped me that much. I hate to put you off!
Along with learning how to drive the ball onto the fairway, you must get the skill required to putt the ball into the hole from around the 8 foot mark. This distance is recommended as the best chance of you getting the ball into the hole. This is where knowing how to putt well comes into play.

One skill that is sometimes overlooked when learning how to putt well, is the skill of reading the green. By observing the grass and seeing which way the wind is blowing, you will have the ability to choose the correct golf club. If you are in an area where the grass is high you would be best to pick a high lofted iron or wedge. If you have an obstacle in your way then a sand wedge is often your best solution. Look for the slopes or hills and learn how to judge distances correctly.
The next time you are out on the golf green, take the time to practice putting from different conditions, longer grass or from the sand bunker. In time your skill will develop and you will really start to understand the mechanics of how to putt well.
Appreciating how to putt well involves learning how to stand properly. Most players stand with their feet slightly apart and their knees slightly bent. The body is turned a little at the waist. This allows the player to swing with a controlled force, follow through is important here.
Take the time to learn how to swing smoothly, you should feel no jerky movements at all. Doing all of this will help you develop control over the ball. After all, this is what you want to achieve. Obviously getting the ball into the hole in as few putts as possible is going to help lower your golf score too.
None of the professional players got to be where they are today without making use of golf drills. Make sure you take the time to practice each day. Even going out and practicing with a few friends can help. You can critique each other and offer pointers. It is always easier to watch someone else swing and offer advice. Trying to watch in a mirror and swing at the same time is often tricky.
A great source of learning is just by watching the PGA/LPGA competitions regularly. You can easily pick up some great tips from watching the best players on the golf circuit. But above all, practise makes perfect.
