Why having the Correct Putter Grip is Important

Holding the golf club in the right manner is crucial, and this includes having the correct putter grip. Always remember that both hands need to work in unison, applying moderate pressure. If you hold the club too tightly you will only end up slicing your shots. The correct putter grip enables you to hold the club lightly, providing you with a powerful stroke. Get the basics of the correct putter grip under your belt first, before applying various golf improvement tips.

There are a couple of ways to know if you have the correct putter grip. First, you should be able to see the first two knuckles of your lead hand. Lastly, you should notice a ‘V’ shape between the index finger and thumb, this should point in the direction of your right shoulder.

When attempting to putt the ball, ensure that you relax. Your arms, shoulders and wrist muscles need to be completely relaxed, otherwise you are creating unwanted tension. Too much tension will cause your putt to go astray. Never make the putt until you are absolutely ready, of course you don’t want to hold up other players either.

To perfect the correct putter grip, learn to get your wrists to work together. If you find yourself having trouble with this concept, simply switch hands on the grip. The correct putter grip can be achieved by practicing. Just take out your golf club each day and practice your grip. Watch the alignment of your fingers and wrists. Do this about 10 times a day and you will easily develop the correct putter grip.

Once you have happy with the correct putter grip, you need to concentrate on the amount of pressure you are applying. One simple tip you can practice is this. Simply swing the golf club straight up to the middle of your head; the angle of the head should not change, and this will mean that you have a good grip. Also check that the face of the club is still pointed straight; if so,you are applying the correct amount of pressure. Practice this drill until you get it perfect repeatedly.

With two thirds of the golf game involving putting, you must develop your skills in this area. Learn how to develop a good, smooth stroke that has an even rhythm. Concentrate on using your arms and shoulders more, since this allows you to have more control over the putting distance. Above all, don’t look up too early.
